Although there is much more to Rothko than meets the eye, I still think he is overrated. His notable work changed the direction of art history, but I don't credit him with developmental growth or "periods" of focus on different interests in painting once he left his "early" period and moved into rectangles. He seemed stuck, with only very slight nuances of change, some only perceptible to Rothko.
I really like some his works... haha. But I'm also a freak for color... so...
