Proust and Thinking About My Life

Last week, one of my co-workers gave me a book to read: How Proust Can Change Your Life by Alain de Botton.

The most I knew about Proust was the snippets we read in a French history class three years ago and a brief biographical sketch, but he seemed like a fascinating figure and the book isn't long so I took a crack at it.

I loved it.

The approach was more self-help than I was anticipating, but I found myself thinking back to the Shakespeare class I took my last term at BYU and finding the relevance to my life today. Alain de Botton and Proust give advice on everything - from how to be in love to how to suffer properly. And it was generally good advice.

A new favorite. I'd put it on my bookshelf.
