A shorter reading month:
1. The Island of Last Things by Emma Sloley - This was really interesting! The premise centers on a future when a bacteria has killed many animals and thrown the world into disarray. Alcatraz has become the last zoo in the world for animals. A new keeper comes to the island and questions the way things are being handled. Great setup and I liked the writing, but it didn't quite stick the landing for me. This is the author's debut, so I would definitely be willing to read her next book.
2. The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern - This is a book I preordered when it came out in 2019 and then just let it sit on my shelf. I absolutely love her first book, and I was scared this would be a let down. I should not have been worried. It's very atmospheric which I think others will either love or hate (I love) and a true love letter to books. A very ambiguous ending, lots of unanswered questions. I think this book would infuriate a lot of people, but I really loved it.
3. Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan - This is the fourth Keegan that I've picked up and she's quickly becoming one of my favorites. Set during the Christmas season in 1985 in Ireland, I found myself savoring this book even though it was only about 120 pages. A beautiful and poignant story I think I will reread many times.
